Objective.
Design a complete special-edition hardcover for Whispers in the Willows, a young adult fantasy novel blending romance, mystery, and whimsy. The project includes a dust jacket, hardcover design, interior layouts, and custom endpapers.
Purpose.
To create an immersive book experience that draws new readers into the story while rewarding longtime fans with hidden details and meaningful visual references.
Design.
The design uses atmospheric lighting, custom hand lettering, a whimsical color palette, and layered visual elements to draw the viewer into the setting. The main character, Ila, is placed in the middle of the environment, while cranes encircle her, creating depth that guides the viewer into the world inside the book. It balances fanciful details with clear visual communication that will allow readers to get invested in the story.
